Popular messaging app WhatsApp seems to be having an issue, in particular with sending of images, videos and GIFs.
On Sunday, 19 January 2020, users across the world reported having issues with sending of media files on the platform.
Despite these media issues, normal messages, video calls and voice calls seem to be working just fine.
According to Downdetector, WhatsApp users started reporting issues after 2:30 pm (EAT) and by 3:00 pm (EAT) the number of outage reports had blown through the roofs.
Reports indicate that WhatsApp is facing issues in the India, Brazil, parts of Africa and parts of Middle-East and a larger part of Europe, with the UK and UAE being the worst hit!
This comes only a few days after LinkedIn was facing technical issues with parts of the platform not working as they should. Despite the company rectifying the problem, we never really got an explanation as to what was happening.
As of press, WhatsApp had not issued any statements in this regard. We can only assume that the company is aware of the issues and working to resolve them.
This is a developing story and we will update you as we get more information.
