The rumoured “secret project from Nokia was just made official a couple of days ago in New Delhi, India after the launch of the company’s first-ever smart TV. The Nokia-branded TV has, of course, started selling in India at ₹41,999 (around Kes.60,000) and is available at a 55-inch variant.
The main selling point that Nokia has been presenting the new device has obviously been the sound quality done in collaboration with American sound company, JBL.
“The acoustics of the Nokia Smart TV has been engineered by JBL, which will let customers experience clear vocal tones and minimal harmonic distortion. True to JBL’s brand recall, the Nokia Smart TV will also enjoy deep bass tones, typically popular with Indian audiences,” the company said in a statement.
Similar to Nokia, this is the first time that JBL has extended its famous audio tech to the modern television space.
Moreover, the TV is powered by 24-watt built-in speakers, “DTS TruSurround” and Dolby Audio to enhance the overall audio experience. All this effort from Nokia is to try and bring up a device that offers better sound quality compared to what other brands have been making over the years.
The Smart TV offers intelligent dimming that helps produce deeper blacks through accurate backlight control and a wide colour gamut.
It comes with the Android 9.0 Operating System (OS) that will allow users to access a host of apps on the Android TV Play Store. It also sports a quad-core processor and 2.25GB RAM and 16GB ROM.
Nevertheless, it is not yet clear whether Nokia plans to have the distribution extended worldwide and when they’ll do that it is clear that we would all love to see this new piece of home tech.
