You just got a new laptop or you have a lot of vital information on your laptop and you wouldn’t want to lose it. One of the easiest ways to protect your laptop from viruses. Here are a few ways how:

Update Your Software.

Make sure Windows and all your PC’s software is updated. Most malware exploits security holes that have already been patched, sometimes several years earlier. First, run Windows 10 with Windows Defender, the SmartScreen filter, Firewall, cloud-based heuristics making sure they are all turned on. Do that and you’re already safe enough.

Use An Anti-Virus

If you are not on Windows 10 and accident-prone, or just want better protection, there’s still a place for anti-virus programs. From the current free programs, we recommend Avira or Bitdefender, though both Avast and AVG (which is now owned by Avast) are still acceptable choices. Kaspersky is probably the best paid-for option, but Trend Micro is worth a look.

Back-Up Your Computer

You have three basic backup options: an external hard drive, online backup service, or cloud storage. Use a service like Google Drive, and your files will be continually backed up to the cloud. And the price is right: free for up to 5 GB of data.

Make sure you have good backups of all your personal data. In addition to normal PC backups. Blu-rays are a good option because they can’t be encrypted by ransomware.

Use Strong Passwords

A strong password is one that is complex, with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. While some people use the same password for everything, try to avoid that practice.

When creating a password, use eight characters or more and, to make them easier to remember, try using short phrases separated by spaces or underscore marks – such as “car_park_city?”

Minimize Downloads

Make sure your Web browser’s security settings are high enough to detect unauthorized downloads. For Internet Explorer, the medium-security setting is the minimum level to use. Finally, Use a pop-up ad blocker and of course, don’t click links you are not sure of.
