Amazon Alexa, just like other smart assistants makes life easier and productive because of the convenience it offers. You can ask it to turn on the lights, read the news and more. While Alexa is taking your requests, it also records samples of your private voice recordings. That’s why you may want to take control by deleting your Alexa voice recordings regularly.

Why does Alexa save recordings?

Each time you say “Alexa” (or whatever your wake word of choice happens to be), Amazon might be listening. Amazon says that Alexa saves n extremely small fraction of the voice recordings to make the experience better, to improve the accuracy of the results. As much as this is to help Alexa get better, it may leave smart home users feeling a bit uneasy. There should be precautions taken as there has been mismanagement in the past.

How to view your Amazon Alexa voice history

The preferred method to view the history is by using the Alexa app.

  • Download the Alexa app for iPhone or Android.
  • Open the Alexa app.
  • Tap “More” on the bottom right.
  • Tap “Activity.”
  • Choose the “Voice History” tab on top.
  • Next to “Displaying” choose “All History” and “All devices.”

You will see a list of Alexa recordings. You can listen to snippets of the recordings.

How to delete your voice data from Alexa

Fortunately, deleting these voice recordings is easy if you don’t want Alexa hanging on to them for whatever reason.

  • Open the Alexa app.
  • Tap the upper left corner to open the Settings menu.
  • Select “Alexa Privacy” > “Review Voice History”
  • Choose the date range you want to delete from the dropdown menu.
  • Tap “Delete All Recordings” under the dropdown menu.
  • Click “Yes” to confirm the deletion of your Alexa voice recordings.
