Sony is set to host its next big press conference-like event today, September 9 over a year after the official launch of the PlayStation 5. Dubbed the PlayStation Showcase 2021, the event will last roughly 40 minutes as confirmed at the official PlayStation Blog announcement. This will feature the unveiling of some of the upcoming PS5 games from both first-party and third-party studios. Of course, this will be the best chance for gamers to see these new games since Sony was mostly absent during the E3 event.
The PlayStation Showcase is scheduled to begin at 11 pm EAT. According to Sony, the live stream will “include updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the industry’s most imaginative developers, for games releasing this holiday and beyond.”
The statement also states “more updates from the studio teams featured in the Showcase” after the main show, but the teams featured have not been specified.
The event will be streamed live on PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels as well as at the official site.
While it’s not entirely clear, PlayStation is also expected to unveil some new hardware. This includes the allegedly brand new Sony PSP whose images have been making around on social media. Unfortunately, the PlayStation VR was confirmed to not be featured on the stream with Sony saying that “the next generation of VR won’t make an appearance this time. But there will still be plenty of great PS5 games from developers large and small.”
As for the games, we obviously expect to finally get a first look at God of War: Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7. There is also a PS5- enhanced version of GTA 5 that is due for release in November. According to the game’s developers, there will be some “fun surprises” so we could probably get to see them during the live stream.
