OPPO is a brand that is well associated with selfie-focused smartphones and in this market, the company has mastered the mid-range segment, although they are still considered rather expensive compared to other brands.

Well, this year has brought with it a lot of unforeseen changes in the smartphone market with premium brands like Samsung changing strategy to focus on the lower end and better mid-range phones. Now, OPPO’s new lineup is following a similar strategy – mostly focusing on entry-level smartphones.

The company has started teasing the launch of a new smartphone, OPPO A1K. The device was announced back in May 2019 and is actually available in a few markets like India but is yet to make its way to Kenya.

OPPO claims that the device will change what people think of budget phones, suggesting that the A1K does not make any compromises, “Nothing about it even whispers compromise. Be it the high-quality design, the hardware or the world-class processor, there is nothing budget segment about the A1k. Except perhaps the price itself!,” reads OPPO’s teaser.

Well, these are quite some bold words coming from the company but I must agree that the specifications list does have some promise to it. Taunting a giant battery, waterdrop display, stylish metallic back cover and A.I optimizations to aid in multi-tasking, OPPO is really talking a big game.

There’s also a promise of great photography, which you should definitely take with a hint of salt considering it’s a budget phone with an 8MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera. As for the giant battery that promises up to 17 hours of daily usage, it is a 4000mAh capacity – which is great, we have 32GB of internal storage and a 6.1-inch display.
