The next generation of Galaxy smartphones was officially unveiled yesterday with a myriad of changes for Samsung to make its 10th-anniversary making smartphones. The company put out a total of five smartphones and a number of accessories including the new generation Galaxy Buds meant to rival Apple AirPods.

Of the five smartphones that were announced, the Galaxy Fold (the one that unfolds into a 7″ tablet from a 4.6″ smartphone, if the name was not obvious) and the Galaxy S10 5G will not be making its way to the Kenyan market and at a price of $1980, it is easy to see why.

The other three devices, the Galaxy S10+, S10 and S10e will all hit the Kenyan shelves and as of now, Samsung East Africa has opened up the pre-order window, starting today until March 11, where 1000 Samsung customers will have the chance to pre-order their choice of device that will be bundled with a free pair of Galaxy Buds worth Kes.20,000.

The new lineup of S10 devices brings with them a modern design language that we have come to expect from Samsung. There’s now an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader that replaces the rear-mounted reader on previous generation galaxy devices, there’s still no notch for the notch lovers but Samsung has gone the ‘hole in the display’ route with the S10 lineup. The S10+ has two front-facing cameras thus making the punch hole display on the larger model look a bit more awkward than that of the smaller S10 and S10e, which has a single selfie camera.

The company also added three lenses on the back of the S10 and S10+ while the more price-friendly S10e comes with dual cameras and also, the S10e has its fingerprint scanner mounted on the side instead of under the display. Here’s a breakdown of the specifications of each device:

This is the largest of them all with the biggest display standing at 6.4″. It has two selfie cameras, a wide-angle lens of 10MP and a depth sensor of 8MP to assist you take better portrait selfies. The back has three cameras; a wide-angle 12MP lens, a telephoto (2x zoom) 12MP lens and a 16MP ultra-wide angle lens for group shots or when you want to capture more in your frame.

The battery is a large 4100mAh battery that should totally have no problem pushing you through the day. Storage options for this device start at 128GB and go all the way to 512GB for the devices coming to our market, all with 8GB of RAM – more than you actually need.

The retail price for the S10+ is Kes.105,999 for the 128GB variant and Kes.127,999 for the 512GB variant.

This one is supposed to be the “budget” option but all it does is shrink some shrink some specs thus reducing the price tag but still maintaining quite a heavy flagship tag since it is more than capable and it is probably the one to get. The display is smaller at 5.8″ which means it is much easier to use, there’s 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, dual 12MP + 16MP lenses on the back for wide and ultra-wide scenes, a single 10MP lens is found on the front and a battery capacity of 3100mAh.

The retail price for the S10 is Kes.78,999.

Other notable specifications of the devices include reverse wireless charging which means you can use your phone to charge another wirelessly – as long as it supports wireless charging, there the usual IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, the Bixby button can now be remapped to anything you want (hats off Samsung), the home button is no longer pressure sensitive and all devices come with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box.
