Samsung Going Green: TVs and Carbon Reduction: What Does This Mean?

The ‘Reducing CO2’ certification signifies that a product’s carbon footprint is reducing year-on-year. The Carbon Trust is the global climate consultancy that accelerates this move to decarbonize the future.  They do this by evaluating the amount of GHG(Greenhouse Gas) that products generate throughout their lifecycle.

This year, 11 models across Samsung’s 2022 TV lineup obtained the certification. The TVs include

  • three Neo QLED 8K models
  • three Neo QLED 4K models
  • two QLED models
  • two Lifestyle TV models
  • one Crystal UHD TV model

You can expect the 2022 New TV lineup to arrive in Kenya around early July.

As part of the “Together for Tomorrow” initiative, Samsung’s Visual Display Business is set to use around 30 times more recycled plastics. Samsung also says its plans to expand the use of recycled materials in all of its mobile and home appliance products by 2025.

In addition, Samsung is adopting various sustainable practices to minimize the environmental impact. For instance, the company’s ‘Eco-Packaging’ program is being upgraded this year. They note that the product packaging will use 90% less ink. They will also remove the staples during production.

Samsung is also expanding the SolarCell Remote. This will eliminate battery waste since the remotes have built-in solar panels. They will be available for all TV models in 2022. Additionally, Samsung is applying new material to a 2022 high-resolution monitor S8.

It will be made with repurposed ocean-bound plastics. This will help to reduce marine waste and minimize the environmental footprint.

“As the market leader for 16 consecutive years, Samsung is focussing on innovations around human-centric technology and the environment.”

said Seokwoo Yong, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D Team, Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Samsung will continue to implement various sustainability initiatives and eco-conscious activities. All in line with its ‘Going Green’ vision.”
