Six months after the launch of Spotify in Kenya, there’s no doubt that the music streaming service has been a popular source of entertainment for audiophiles across the country. The company marked the six-month milestone with new chart reports about what Kenyans have been listening to the most on Spotify.

This was announced during the Made for Kenya event held on Tuesday. According to Spotify, local genres topped the charts with Gengetone dominating. But there has still been a huge interest in international artists like Drake, Pop Smoke and The Weeknd.

“The Gengetone musical wave is not only gaining momentum amongst creators and listeners but building in popularity with its youthful urban sound,” states Spotify. “This is testament to Kenya’s musical influence across Africa while pioneering a culture that varies in talent from a new and different sound.”

Among the local artists making the list for top streamed artists including the veteran Sauti Sol alongside Nviiri The Storyteller. So it was not surprising to see Niko Sawa by Nviiri and Sauti Sol’s Bien take the spot as the most-streamed track in Kenya.
