After two years of rumours about Facebook developing smart glasses, the social media giant has finally confirmed and set to launch on September 9.

The company has partnered with luxury sunglasses and eyeglasses brand Ray-Ban for the upcoming device. With the launch so close now, Ray-Ban has already begun marketing the product with a teaser that is live on the website. Those who wish to get more information on the device will have to sign up on the site.

In terms of specs, nothing is clear but it will definitely be made known during the launch tomorrow.

This comes a few months after Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the team up with Ray-Ban saying, “Looking ahead here, the next product release will be the launch of our first smart glasses from Ray-Ban in partnership with Essilor Luxottica. The glasses have their iconic form factor and they let you do dome pretty neat things. I’m excited to get these into people’s hands and to continue to make progress on the journey towards full augmented reality glasses in the future.”

Facebook has certainly been busy in its venture into the world of AR and VR with this new product being the latest evidence. One of the most recent products to launch was Facebook’s Horizon Workrooms. It was launched just last month as a virtual-reality remote work app where users of the company’s Oculus Quest 2 headsets can hold meetings as avatar versions of themselves.

Of course, we would expect the new smart glasses to look more like traditional glasses but with some really interesting tech features.
