Nerds across the globe were treated to an early announcement of a Lord of the Rings TV series but nothing else was revealed about its launch date and the cast but now Jeff Bezos’ young venture, Amazon Game Studios, has revealed to be working on a game of the same name.

The company is set to partner with Leyou, a global video game holding company that is set on making this project a free-to-play title for consoles and PC.

The game that will be a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) has, however, been revealed that it will not be related much to the upcoming TV show apart from the fact that they will both be based from Middle Earth of course.

One other key similarity between the two is, according to Leyou’s Athlon Games that reported of the game, being set at a time long before the events dated on J.R.R Tolkien’s novels.

One would argue of the possible reason for this being that Amazon wants this upcoming title to be distinguished from another preceding MMO, The Lord of the Rings Online, that has been around since 2007 and was also based on Tolkien’s world. But what is pretty clear is that even though Amazon is involved in both projects, they are being created totally separately.

With almost nothing more known so far, we can still expect the game to be a great game that will get players to explore the lands, people, and creatures never seen before from Tolkien’s imaginary universe.

This is considering the level of experience between Amazon and Leyou that is quite impressive with Leyou’s possession of Warframe developer Digital Extremes, and Amazon Game Studios already being deep in the development process for its first MMO, New World, which should help relieve the public’s fears of such a fan-favourite franchise handled by relative newcomers.

No further details have been reported regarding the gameplay, release date or even the consoles it will be available in but more will obviously be released as its creation continues to unfold.
