Slack has recently made a significant update to its platform, revealing that it will now start removing messages and files that are over one year old from free workspaces on an ongoing basis.

Slack’s previous policy stated that messages and files would be retained for the lifetime of a free workspace, but accessing the full history required upgrading to a paid account. Under the new policy, Slack now has the right to delete content from free workspaces after one year.

This policy will begin taking effect August 26th, 2024. Workspaces will be notified prior to the policy impacting their workspace. Workspaces on the free version of Slack will continue to have full access to the past 90 days of message and file history.
