During a heated period of the 2020 US elections that saw riots at the Capitol building, former President Donald Trump was banned from several social media platforms. These include Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Trump was accused of using his socials to encourage the attacks. A year later, he is back with his own social media platform called Truth Social.
Here is what you need to know about Truth.
Trump Just Launched His Social Media Platform, Truth.
The Truth Social platform was created by the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). On its website, Truth has quite a self-description. They are calling it America’s “Big Tent” social media platform. The apparent goal is to encourage an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.
So really, Trump is fighting big tech with what he claims to be the alternative truth.
In a statement prior to launch, he wondered why groups like the Taliban have a huge presence on Twitter while “your favorite American president has been silenced.” This he claims although, from a screenshot of the former president’s first Truth post, the platform does look a lot similar to Twitter.

Executives at Trump Media said that this will be a censorship-free platform. Considering that is not an option on many other popular social spaces, it could attract many users banned on other platforms.
However, Apple and Google have terms and conditions that regulate listing of apps on their stores. A lack of moderation is an easy way to be removed from the App Store and Play Store. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts and what kind of global conversations will be ignited by Trump’s and his follower’s “truths”.
Availability
Currently, Truth Social is available for U.S. users only. It launched on the US Apple App Store in a limited form. They are promising to make it available in most countries, so you bet I will check it out for a review once it is available in Kenya.
Will it be though?
