Appliances, just like cars, need to be maintained. When buying one, you expect it to last for years. This can be achieved by taking good care of it. On average, an oven is supposed to last for up to 16 years.
Here are a few easy ways to best care for your oven:
Clean your oven
This is the golden rule when it comes to maintaining an oven. Cleaning it is a task, but try and wipe up any spills in it that is after you have let the oven cool off.
If you don’t have the store-bought cleaning solutions, make an easy paste of baking soda and water (1/2 cup baking soda, 3 tbsp water) Make sure you have covered the whole surface and let it sit for 12 hours. This is a method that is preferred to be done overnight. Wipe down the paste with a sponge, or damp cloth. If there is any residue left, spray some white vinegar and wipe it down with a cloth.
Keep the oven dry
When the oven is left damp after cleaning, it may lead to corrosion, reducing its longevity. To ensure it is completely dry, heat it for a few minutes and open the door so that it can cool.
Care for your door seals
Door seals are usually the main suspect when it comes to ovens taking a longer period to heat up. If you notice any wear on your seals, replace them as soon as possible. The heat easily escapes from the worn-out seals making the oven overwork to achieve the desired temperature.
Don’t touch the knobs!
Many people usually wipe the knobs with water which leads to corrosion. The simplest way to clean these is by wiping them down with a damp cloth.
In conclusion, clean your oven, keep it dry, care for your door seals and don’t touch the knobs.
