Web Browser Opera Stops Free Internet Data For Kenyans

Kenyans using Opera Mini were impacted when Opera ceased its free data campaign, which had previously enabled those with limited means to access the internet through free data bundles.

The authorities have decided to stop advertising on Speed Dials (bookmarks on the start page) within browsers, affecting the firm operating the Opera Mini Browser.

Since 2020, Opera has given free daily data to all its users, including those with feature phones. Over 13.5 million local users benefit from the 50MB daily free data plan.

Opera’s free internet plan has garnered over 100 million users in Africa, with Kenya and Nigeria accounting for a significant portion. Opera’s management provided free data to support users and drive digital inclusion and transformation in Kenya.
