The Masterclass sessions, set to kick off in Nairobi, will cover a range of topics essential for startup success, including customer acquisition, fundraising, and brand building. The opening session will be led by seasoned executives who have played key roles in building successful companies across diverse capacities.

Here are the details on sessions and experts who will guide founders through the key concepts of each topic.

Customer Acquisition for Traditional and Digital Business

Samar Patel, Head of Channel Sales at Badili, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming Masterclass. With over 18 years of diverse sales experience in sectors such as B2B, B2G, and B2B2C, Samar has focused on e-commerce for the past five years. His session will offer invaluable insights into customer acquisition strategies tailored for the East African market, incorporating both traditional and digital approaches. Attendees can anticipate practical case studies and actionable advice to enhance their customer acquisition and retention efforts.

Fundraising for Traditional and Non-Traditional Business

Another exciting highlight of the Masterclass series will be a session on fundraising led by Michael Mutie, Investment Associate at Launch Africa Ventures. Michael is involved in strategic deal sourcing and evaluation, aligning investments with the Fund’s mandate. With a background in Computer Science and International Business Management, Michael brings a unique perspective on fundraising strategies tailored for African startups.

Brand Building and Becoming Relevant for Customers

Valentine Kainyu, Group Head of Beauty at Jumia, will be leading a session on brand building and customer relevance. With over 8 years of experience in e-commerce and management consulting, Valentine is truly dedicated to empowering African businesses. Her session will provide invaluable insights into building startup brands and implementing commercial strategies in Africa’s dynamic business landscape.

More about the Masterclass sessions

  1. Early-stage founders in Kenya with companies ranging from MVP to Pre-Series A stage are encouraged to attend these sessions.
  2. Each session will run for 45 minutes followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
  3. There is no participation fee for founders or ecosystem builders, but seats are limited.
  4. The Masterclass sessions are scheduled for 26th April 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Kofisi, 9 West Building, Opposite Sarit Centre, Westlands, Nairobi.
