Netflix, the streaming service, has been available in Kenya for a while now. Its popularity is still high, given that it offers a wide variety of award-winning content. Last year, Netflix Kenya launched a 100% free tier for Android phones, with about one-fourth of the content available in its paid-streaming plans. There are still other paid plans, of course.

This article is a guide on how to pay for Netflix in Kenya using M-PESA.

First, let us have a look at the Netflix plans available in Kenya. New Netflix users enjoy free trials and access to the premium package for the first 30 days.

1. Mobile 

This plan costs KES 300/month.  It is only available for mobile users using one screen at a time.

2. Basic 

The plan costs KES 700 shillings/month.

• Unlimited movies and TV shows at HD quality
• Available on laptop, TV, phone or tablet
• Allows one screen at a time/ one device at a time

2. Standard 

The standard plan costs KES 1,100 shillings/month. You get;

• Unlimited movies and TV shows at HD quality
• Available on laptop, TV, phone or tablet
• Allows two screens at a go.

3. Premium 

This package goes for KES 1,450 shillings/month.

• Unlimited movies and TV shows with Ultra HD streaming.
•  Available on laptop, TV, phone or tablet.
• Allows four screens/devices at a go.

How To Pay For Netflix In Kenya Via M-PESA

Previously, it has not been possible to pay for Netflix via M-PESA directly. The only available option was credit/debit card, or linking your M-PESA to a PayPal account.

Now, a new partnership between M-PESA and Visa has made the process a lot easier. They have introduced an Mpesa Global Pay option, where you can get your Virtual Card and use it to pay Netflix.

Here is how to activate the card.

M-PESA APP:

• Log in to your M-PESA
• Select Pay tab
• Select the GlobalPay and Opt In.
• Select your card
• Enter PIN
• You will receive an SMS with the card number and expiry date.

Alternatively:

• Select the Grow
• Select the GlobalPay tab to Opt In
• Select your card
• Enter PIN
• You will receive an SMS with the card number and expiry

M-PESA USSD (*334#):

• Dial *334#
• Select Lipa na M-PESA (Option 6)
• Select M-PESA GlobalPay (Option 5)

Now head over to Netflix and use the card to pay!
