WhatsApp for iOS is working on yet another long-requested feature from the users, the ability to hide their online and recent activity status from everyone. This feature is already in development and will come in the app’s future update.
According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app will soon allow users to hide their online status from everyone. Till this point, users had the option to display their Last Seen information to selected people, their contacts, everyone or no one at all. For the future version of the app, WhatsApp will let users follow a similar approach to this part of the platform.
The publication stated the feature would be available right inside of the last seen settings on their apps owing to two new options: Same as Last Seen and Everyone.
According to the screenshot, it will be possible to configure who can see when the user is online within the last seen settings with the options Everyone and Same as Last Seen. For example, if you choose My Contacts for Last Seen and Same as Last Seen for online, it means that non contacts wont be able to see when you’re online.
Last year, WhatsApp started hiding the last seen to contacts users have never chatted with, to prevent third party apps from monitoring our last seen and online status. However, people who users have already chatted with could still see when they were online but with this new privacy setting, Who Can See When I’m Online, they wont be able to do it anymore.
The developers’ team is also working on a feature that allows users to edit a message they have already sent. Moreover, the feature to edit and delete messages is coming to iMessage from iOS 16 onwards. Despite the controversy, the feature could prove to be quite helpful.
