How To Pay To Safaricom’s MPESA Till From Telkom and Airtel

Customers can now directly pay for goods and services through MPESA till number from Telkom and Airtel mobile money platforms. Several regulators led by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) have urged a seamless transfer to combat Safaricom’s dominant position in mobile money. The Lipa na M-Pesa interoperability is live now, launched just last week by the telcos and stakeholders.

This is the first phase of Merchant Interoperability, allowing Kenyans to make mobile money payments to an M-PESA Buy Goods Till from any network; The second phase towards complete merchant interoperability will see Kenyans make mobile money payments from M-PESA to Till Numbers on other networks: Airtel Money and T-kash.

Telkom, Safaricom, and Airtel are confident that this solution will offer a faster, more affordable, secure, and convenient alternative to cash payments and also eliminate the hassle of transferring money across networks, before making payments.

Except for settlements made at fuel stations, payments made through Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods segment are free of charge. For money collected on the till Safaricom charges business owners a maximum of 0.5 percent.
