Vivo has just announced their first smartphone to start selling in Kenya is the Vivo Y15. The device, which is a mid-range phone comes with the largest battery in its price segment, a familiar design with a waterdrop notch and triple camera setup on the back and a gradient colour scheme as we’ve seen from literally everyone else.
The device, all by itself looks interesting, especially with the 5000mAh battery. Vivo smartphones also have a reputation of having good cameras and from the specifications, the Y15 doesn’t look like it will disappoint. But put the phone side to side with what the market has to offer and you quickly realize that the shortcuts made might hurt the sales of the phone.
For instance, the 720p display looks very substandard compared to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy A-series that feature Super AMOLED displays at 1080p resolution. Even Huawei’s phones have better resolution thus really leaving the question as to why Vivo decided to go with a standard 720p display instead.
At its price of Kes.22,000, the Vivo Y15 competes directly with the Samsung Galaxy A30, Huawei P30 Lite and even the slightly higher priced Samsung Galaxy A50 and Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) for those who are willing to dig slightly deeper into their pockets to get more out of their phones.
In this comparison, we shall pit the Vivo Y15 up against the Samsung Galaxy A30 and the Huawei P30 Lite:

The Huawei – Best camera in class and larget storage option
If camera performance is your thing, going by megapixel count alone, the Huawei P30 Lite takes the crown. It also has the largest storage option starting at 128GB, which could be the deal maker for most people.

The Vivo Y15?
Well, as we said earlier, it’s not a bad phone – as long as you keep it away from the competition. It’s a perfectly okay phone to spend your money on, just know that you will be missing on USB-C as the phone uses the traditional USB port, you get a lower quality display compared to the rest and with all honesty, the software might not really be the greatest strength it has.
However, for those who prefer phones that aren’t needy in terms of charging, the Vivo is the best option. With the largest battery on the list, everyone else bows down to it. On top of this, the performance of the phone, the camera and build quality shouldn’t really be of concern to you. If you want to try the world’s sixth-best smartphone brand, there’s no better place to start than the Vivo Y15.
