The aggressive marketing by EA Sports prior to the FIFA 20 release last week must have paid off with impressive opening sales. But what followed after a couple of days of gameplay must have found the developers absolutely dumbfounded. The release was later on marred by a growing number of complaints about major bugs in the career mode.
The football simulator’s flagship singleplayer mode has been infested by issues including AI opposition fielding that severely weakens squads. This was followed by a #Fix CareerMode hashtag that went trending on Twitter during the weekend. The players were however treated to silence from EA Sports until a whole day later.
The bugs, most of which are collected in this thread also include the strongest teams finishing low down in league tables. This is alongside glitches when editing players such as their position randomly changing and European club competitions failing to trigger.
In the late response, EA replied to a FIFA 20 Q&A forum on its website. And as expected, most of the answers say the team is either investigating the problem or has found a solution that will be included in a future update. Additionally, EA FIFA’s community global franchise lead Corey Andress said the development team was “aware and prioritizing fixes for this area and have been successful in identifying some of the issues”.
He couldn’t provide a timescale for the fixes but said “it won’t be immediate”. FIFA 20’s first patch is already locked and loaded, so career mode changes can’t be added, he explained.
“I am fully aware that that is not what you want to hear, but I also don’t want to leave you without answers on this one. We are continuing to prioritize and push these issues with urgency, so hopefully, we’ll have more to share soon.”
So as much as you have enjoyed the kick-off matches, Ultimate Team and Volta Football, you might want to hold off on the career mode as you’ll just get irritated.
