So what does it mean to have an E-Visa? Well, according to the Airline Operators Committee, Deputy Director of Immigration Service Alicent Odipo says that now foreigners seeking to travel to Kenya no longer need to physically visit the Kenyan embassies. You can now just apply for a visa online.

1. Visit www.evisa.go.ke on their browser.
2. Click the Create an account button at the top right of the screen. Proceed to fill in the registration form in order to have an account with the portal.
3.  After that, fill in the e-visa application form and pay for an issue via Visa or Mastercard.
4. You will then receive a PDF copy of the e-visa with the option to download for printing.

Kenya is not the first to do this, and nor will it be the last. A number of countries are gradually shifting to electronic visas as well. This is an effort to make the process more convenient for travellers and tourists visiting the country. The move is also in line with the government’s plan to switch to e-services efficiency and seal security.

It’s pretty similar to what is happening with the smart driver’s license . The Interior Security Ministry is advocating for Kenyan drivers to register it as well. Hopefully, this can see all services become convenient in the near future. Hopefully, the government websites will hold out too.
