Xiaomi has been in the country for a while now, selling through online retailer Jumia. The company has now announced a partnership with retailer, Safaricom Shop. Xaomi devices will now be available at all the Safaricom Shops across the country, actually one device, the Redmi Note 5 has been selling at Safaricom Shop for a while now.

The Redmi Note 5 is the only device selling through the retailer but Xiaomi has confirmed to Gadgets Africa that a number of devices are joining the shelf as from March this year. The Redmi Note 5 is not a new device, the phone has been around for almost a year now, which leaves us wondering what the plan is here.

Xiaomi confirms that there’s a clearance sale for the same, though the pricing is yet to be mentioned. Of interest is the upcoming devices that Xiaomi says will be available at Safaricom shop when they launch;

  • Redmi Go
  • Redmi 7
  • Redmi Note 7

All these are new devices, which is exciting, to say the least, however, customers should note that all the Xiaomi devices that will be listed at Safaricom Shop will be single SIM variants as has been the policy with devices retailing through Safaricom.

Gadgets Africa’s Take:

Whether this move will see wider adoption of Xiaomi smartphones or not, is something we will have to wait and see. What’s for sure is that enthusiasts will be up in arms due to the lack of dual SIM support as well as a higher price tag compared to other retailers as has been Safaricom Shop’s tradition.
