This New WhatsApp Feature Makes It Easier To Send Risky Texts

3

Today, Meta has launched a new feature on WhatsApp dubbed “Chat Lock” that lets you protect your most intimate conversations behind one more layer of security. That’s cool and all but what are we protecting so heavily on WhatsApp? Before we get into that, let’s take a look at how it will work.

WhatsApp New Feature Update – Chat Lock

WhatsApp Chat lock Feature

The WhatsApp announcement notes that locking a chat takes that thread out of your inbox and puts it behind its own folder. This folder can from then on, only be accessed with your device’s password or biometric, like a fingerprint. It also automatically hides the contents of that chat in notifications, too.

How It Works

You can lock a chat by:

  • Tapping the name of a one-to-one or group and selecting the lock option.
  • Then, to reveal these chats, slowly pull down your inbox and enter your password or biometric.

What is the reason behind this? Well…

“We believe this feature will be great for people who share their phones from time to time with a family member, or when someone else is holding your phone when an extra-special chat arrives.”

Extra-special hmmm? It looks like they were not kidding when they were talking about privacy and inclusivity. Everyone is included.

They also note that they will add more features to Chat Lock. Including locks for companion devices and creating a custom password for your chats so that you can use a unique password different from your phone’s.

The company will be rolling out Chat Lock to their users globally on WhatsApp beginning today.
