In the latest mobile internet rankings, Faiba is the best broadband internet provider in Kenya during Q1 2022. Speedtest Global Index Market Analyses are used to identify key data about internet performance in countries across the world. Ookla is the global network intelligence testing and analysis firm responsible for Speedtest.
The company has now published the 2022 Q1 Internet Performance Report for Kenya as well. Remember, internet rankings on the Speedtest Global Index are now based on median download speeds. They say it is to best reflect the speeds a user is likely to achieve in a market.

Mobile Internet
Kenya ranked 105 globally in mobile internet connectivity. The position is informed by the following averages
- 16.33Mbps download speeds
- 8.71Mbps upload speeds
- 28ms in latency (a measure of delay
In mobile operator performance, providers are also ranked in different categories depending on how they performed on modern chipsets. Safaricom tops the speed score with the fastest internet followed closely by Airtel, and at a distant third is Faiba. Airtel had the lowest latency at 22 ms. This past quarter, Ookla could not no statistical winner for Consistency Score.
An analysis of performance on some of the fastest phones in Kenya found that there was no statistical winner during Q1 2022. However, iPhone X through 12 are the top of the contenders.
Fixed Broadband
Kenya finished the 2021 year at position 154 globally in fixed broadband internet. Faiba was the fastest provider here, and in second place is Safaricom and Access Kenya comes in third.
Just like last quarter, Faiba also had the lowest latency and the most consistent internet experience. Ookla reports 49.8% of results showing at least a 25 Mbps minimum download speed and 3 Mbps minimum upload speed.
Meanwhile, Mombasa maintained its lead amongst Kenya’s populous cities in a different ranking. It is the one with the fastest mean download speeds for both mobile and fixed internet.
