So apart from the usual specifications and great design aspects, what else makes the OPPO Reno 4 stand out from the crowd. After spending more than a month with the Reno4, here’s a list of three features unique to the phone:
Anti-Spy Feature
This is probably the coolest feature on the phone. When you register your face on the phone, the OPPO Reno 4 goes a step ahead when it comes to ‘facial security’.
Look at it this way. Have you ever received a message in a matatu and someone is suddenly straining their neck trying to read your notification like it’s theirs?
Well the OPPO Reno 4 will hide your notifications when it detects the face of another person trying to read them. Here’s an example of how it works.
How To Set it Up
- Settings
- Notification and Status Bar
- Manage Notifications
- Toggle Anti-Peeping
- Select the apps you would like to be secured
Air Gestures
Air gestures are a gimmicky feature at best but it does serve its purpose and since it’s are a pretty cool feature, it makes the top 3. Essentially, the air gestures let you use the phone without physically touching it. Thanks to the sensors on the phone, just by waving your hand above the screen, you are able to give certain commands to the device.
When would you use this?
Well, say for instance you are cooking and listening to music. Instead of touching the phone with your flour filled fingers, just wave over the phone and the song will pause and or change.
How To Enable Air Gestures
- Go into the settings menu
- Select ‘Convenience Tools’
- Gestures and Motions
- Air Gestures
- Then select how you want to use it
- You can use the gestures to answer a call
- To scroll through apps
It will take a bit of practice but you will soon get the hang of it.
Cameras, Cameras, Cameras
The cameras are features in their own sense. The set up includes a large 48MP main camera and a 32MP camera. The quality is quite good so far bt there are some other cool features within the software.
AI Color Portrait Mode
With this feature, the camera focuses on the subject at hand and mutes the background turning it black and white. This is made cooler by the fact that
- It works when you take pictures and videos too.
- It works with the selfie camera as well
The same feature works with specific colours as well. Forest Green, Sky Blue and Crimson Red. Should you pick red, only the red objects will show and everything else will be black and white.
Night Flare
This is a rather fun mode within the camera whereby night photos are made to ‘pop’. The subject/model is kept in focus while the background is blurred giving a rather cool bokeh effect.
Check out more on the cameras here where we shot an entire vlog with the phone alone.
Oh, also the phone comes with a 65 Watt Fast Charger in the box. I mean I really should have started with this but this is just the cream of the crop. Is this a phone you would consider?
