The coldest month is upon us and single people might find themselves wishing for companionship to chase away the biting cold. Well, M-Pesa could be the key to finding love.
An M-Pesa Love Story
Instagram user Michael Muthaka shared his love story on how he met his lover through a mistaken Mpesa transaction. She was trying to pay for an Uber to her boyfriend’s place but ended up meeting her true love instead.
“We met on M-Pesa,” Michael says. “She was paying the cab fare, but then she mistook a digit and the money came to me.”
It cost her 720 shillings from her place to her boyfriend. Unbeknownst to the boyfriend in question, he was soon to be her ex.
The confirmation message came on a Thursday afternoon. Michael was knee-deep in another sentiment report on his tiny desk. He waited to see if she would call or if a reversal message would come through.
There was none. Most of you, like Michael, would think that perhaps an angel had seen it fit to bless you with 720 shillings for your troubles.
However, he thought to himself, “Aki woiye. What if this money is meant for an emergency?” After much consideration, he returned the money. Then to his surprise, she called.
“Hello?” He said.
‘Hello, hi, I just wanted to say thank you for reversing the money.” She said
“No problem,” He uttered shuddering at her angelic voice.
“I’m usually more careful than that.” She murmured.
“I’m sure you are”, He said chuckling.
“Haha. Anyway, thanks again. Have a nice day.” She said almost hanging up.
“Wait,” He said. “Just out of curiosity, what was the cash meant for?”
“Uhm, I was paying for the Uber,” she said.
“Ok,” He said. “Bye. Talk later.”
“Later?” She asked.
“Yeah, if you would like that. I don’t believe in coincidence and neither does God.” He said masterfully. (Nairobi Wewe!)
“Haha. You’re weird, but okay. Text me later.” Then she hung up.

He couldn’t help but already picture how he would travel the world with her!
If Only It Was True…
After reading the story, we obviously had to follow it up and speak to Michael, only to find out it was a creative piece to advertise M-Pesa Global Pay!
Why wouldn’t he, anyway? Especially now since Mpesa has gone global with the launch of the Mpesa GlobalPay virtual Visa card.
Simply download the Mpesa App to activate your card today and start making payments around the world directly from your Mpesa wallet. Yes, we used it too. I’m sorry but it was too good to ignore, but can you really blame us?
The reactions from Kenyans are priceless as always.
Truth or lie it's a lovely read. Felt hopeful for love for a split second. Lakini watume na ya kutoa, that is all.

The story of how M-Pesa helps preserve and strengthen love is truly heartwarming. This is a wonderful reminder of how technology can make our lives better. I wonder if these heroes of the story turned to love psychic to make decisions? After all, there are so many unknowns in love, and the help of an expert could help them connect with each other even more.
